FUEL & STORAGE TANKS
FA-ST Ltd can offer the following services. All work is undertaken by experienced and qualified engineers. Since 2001, new regulations have come into force for above and below ground petrol, diesel and oil storage tanks. To encourage people to comply with the regulations it is deemed as a criminal offence if hydrocarbon based liquid is allowed to enter the watercourse. This effectively means that if a tank or pipe leaks and allows petrol or oil to enter the watercourse, the EA/DEFRA can criminally prosecute. They will take action against the individual responsible for the fuel storage as well as the offending companies managing director. If successful, such a prosecution could result in a prison sentence and/or unlimited fine!
Tank Supply
• Integrally bunded above ground oil storage tanks, either steel or plastic and designed to meet or exceed all regulation requirements.
• Below ground single and double skinned tanks with interstitial monitoring
Tank and Pipe-work Installation
• Supply and fitting of integrally bunded (pipe in pipe) pipe-work that meets all UK legislative requirements.
Tank De-commissioning
• We offer foam filling, concrete filling or excavation and removal of underground storage tanks.
• Above ground tanks can be cut into sections and removed from site.
Tank & Line Integrity Testing
• Pressure testing of tanks and lines to ensure that they are tight and leak free.
Fuel Filtering
• We can filter and clean the contents of under / above ground tanks without having to enter the tank. Fuel can be filtered down to as low as 1 micron if required attaining ISO levels of 14/9 (a car fuel filter runs at 30 microns).
Tank Thickness Testing
• Using NDT or Ultrasonic test equipment, the tank wall thickness can be accurately measured, giving an indication of future life expectancy.Waste Removal
• We can arrange for the removal of contaminated waste through our registered UK waste disposal company. Sites must supply their Registered Waste Number. If a site does not have a number we can arrange this. What you must do to comply with the regulations:
Above Ground Tanks– Control of Pollution (Oil Storage)(England) Regulations 2001
Applicable since 2001, although introduced in three stages
• Perform an annual inspection by qualified engineer
Underground lines to be integrity tested.
Underground Tanks- Groundwater Protection Code: Petrol stations and other fuel dispensing facilities involving underground storage tanks
Applicable since November 2002
• Integrity test tank and lines (lines annually)
• Environmental Risk Assessment on tank(s)
Internal Tanks – Building Regulations 2000, Combustion appliances and fuel storage systems
Applicable since 2000
No specific requirements, but EA/DEFRA will prosecute if oil is not stored to the standards outlined in the Control of Pollution Regulations (see above)
Petrol and Oil Interceptors – Pollution Prevention Guideline 3
Applicable since 2006
• Minimum annual clean and jetting out of all waste material. Again this is not a specific regulatory requirement, but a prosecution may result if not done. FA-ST Ltd can offer all of the necessary inspection, assessments, integrity tests and works to comply with the relevant regulations.
Please contact us with your tank details so we can tailor a package to your needs.
