G O’BRIEN & SONS (Ltd) Demolition ContractorsFA-ST has installed hydraulic filtration units to a range of O’Brien’s Hitachi Excavators including a Zaxis ZX450, EX455 and EX800. These machines work in very harsh, dusty and hazardous conditions. Continually changing implements from shear, grab and hammer has allowed dirt to enter the hydraulic systems and oil contamination problems have been causing serious component failures.
Phil Loughney (O’Brien Plant Manager) decided to tackle this problem from the heart of the machine and has embarked on a program of oil sampling and analysis and preventative maintenance. The additional filtration will remove the contamination that the OEM filters cannot trap and will also remove any water contamination.
The filter units were installed to enable ease of cartridge changing. Each installation took approximately 2 hours and was carried out ‘on site’. During installations FA-ST connected a Micro Filtration Rig to each machine to give the hydraulic oil an initial clean.
